Hi, Everyone!
I'm back from my hiatus and facing the week with renewed vigor! I apologize for not posting the past two weeks, but with working 70+ hours and trying to squeeze at least a little writing in (and Vegas... more on that shortly), it was all a bit overwhelming.
Anyway, this week I'm down to about 60 hours of work plus writing, so I should be better prepared for updates. Being that I was super busy and in Vegas for three days (which included partaking in some alcoholic beverages, lobster bisque and banana cream pie at Emeril's, and one breakfast buffet at which I was relatively restrained) I've slipped some and need to get back on track. However, I'm ready to attack this week with a fresh re-commitment to the goal. I even used my lunch break last night to do some quick grocery shopping so I'd be prepared rather than using it to take a break and relax.
It's good to be back! And what have YOU been up to??? Check in! :o)

Website Wednesday
Hi, Everyone! Today's website is a useful tool for getting outside and getting some exercise in. It's called Map My Walk and can be used to map out and calculate places to trek in your area. It's especially helpful if you are trying to meet a specific mileage goal or are walking somewhere where there isn't a road you can drive on and use your odometer. It also allows you to track goals and find walking groups or events in your area. Check it out!

Monday Morning Check In
Hi, Everyone!
I hope you all had fun weekends! Over here, Saturday was busy with trying to get 8 hours of sleep, squeezing in some light weights (man, are my legs feeling those squats and lunges!), my writing critique group meeting, and 8 hours of work. Sunday was a lazier day and I was enjoying vegging out a little too much. I didn't get nearly enough of the things done that I'd hoped to before I had to work last night... including only getting in a 20 minute walk instead of an hour, but I'm glad I at least got out there!
Then, after work, I went with one of my coworkers out to a dive bar where one of my other coworkers was tending bar to have a couple of beers. It probably wasn't the best decision (and I was really regretting it when my alarm went off this morning), but I had a good time. Of course, getting only 4 hours of sleep on the night before kicking off a 75 hour work week (in addition to going to see The Lion King and celebrating Halloween) is something I am sure I will live to regret at least a little.
Oh, and less than a week until my novel-writing frenzy begins, too! I've been doing a little outlining and character sketching on my breaks from the PT job.
So tell me, how did your weekends go???

Crazy
It's official. I've gone off the deep end. I just signed up for NaNoWriMo. 50,000 words in 30 days. You can keep track of my progress here.
By December I might be comatose. At the very least, I'll be in a sleep-deprived, caffeine-induced alternate state of being. Feel free to send Starbucks gift cards. ;o)

Friday Weigh in
Hi Everyone,
It's Friday, which means weigh-in day! I jumped on the scale as soon as I got into work, and I was down another 2 lbs. So, when you add that to the 4 lbs I'd lost as of Monday, I've lost a total of 6 lbs so far... right on schedule!
Last night, I met a new workout/activity partner for the first time. We met up at the beach near Torrey Pines, walked up the big hill (that's part of it in the background of Narwal's picture), then hiked down the beach trail (Alberthong's picture is near the end of the trail), then walked along the beach next to the cliffs to get back to our cars (the water looked a little closer than in avbizzguy's photo). All in all, about a 3 mile trek. This weekend, we'll probably be hitting the Encinitas beaches.
Have a fantastic weekend everyone! I'll be back Monday with a weekend re-cap!

Thirsty Thursday
On Thirsty Thursdays, I'll be exploring the benefits and effects of different types of beverages while maintaining a healthy lifestyle, as well as taking the time to share some healthier alternatives for nights out on the town.
The first Thirsty Thursday post has to be about the most important beverage out there for a healthy lifestyle... water. Now, I won't deny that there are all kinds of conflicting reports out there regarding how much water a person needs to drink on a day to day business. But I can tell you that from my personal experience, it seems as though I lose weight quicker and more consistently when I'm consuming a lot of water. It makes me feel like I'm flushing out toxins, helps me feel fuller more often, and hydrates me for workouts. When I'm paying attention to a healthier lifestyle, I make sure I get at least 8 glasses, but I feel even better when I'm drinking at least 12.
Anyway, I found the information on this website informational and more in line with my own personal philosophy on drinking water. I hope you find it interesting, and let me know - do you agree with the importance of drinking water to maintain a healthy lifestyle, or feel that the guideline of 8 glasses/day is overly hyped?
